Easter processions, flamenco, ancient sites and high summer in April – Oh, you diverse Andalusia No. 2!

It is now the beginning of April 2023 and the temperatures are anything but spring-like, we are heading towards 30 degrees. However, we are now in the hottest part of Andalusia, a little east of Seville, which is also known as “La Sartén”, the frying pan. Easter is just around the corner! Over the past few weeks, we have already seen posters for Semana Santa – the “Holy Week”, as Holy Week is known in Spain – in every… Read more…

Welcome to the cultural and natural paradise – Andalusia No.1

Back in the EU at last! After three months in Morocco with lots of ups and downs in this completely different culture, it feels like a blessing to be allowed to return to the EU. And so uncomplicated. Late in the evening at the border between Spain and Morocco in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, the Spanish officials are particularly interested in our dog. Do we have the required rabies antibody titre test for him? Fortunately, we do! Without… Read more…

Of magnificent Kasbah ruins, endless stone deserts and encounters of all kinds – Morocco the 3rd!

After our marvellous encounter with the dromedaries at the reservoir near Ouarzazate(link to article), we continue on the “Route of the Kasbahs”. There are three valleys ahead of us, always branching off to the left of the road into the same mountain world of the Atlas Mountains. This is “Berberland”, as the symbols and lettering repeatedly make clear. And at least between Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley there seems to be a kind of self-regulation. There are no more… Read more…

With summer sun in our luggage through the west of Armenia

The summer heat of July has long since transformed the lush flower meadows in southern Armenia into golden steppe landscape. Fresh greenery can still be found almost only around housing estates, which are often located in river valleys. And the following two typical features that we would like to share with you 😉       After the most southeastern point of our journey, the Tatev monastery, we head northwest for the first time. We will stay in this… Read more…

Across wide volcanic plains to the gate of Cappadocia

At what feels like 27 degrees Celsius and sunshine, we set off at the beginning of April near Side in the direction of Cappadocia. More than 500 kilometres lie ahead of us. Of course, we don’t want to just “drive them to death”, but also experience something of the route and its special features. The road leads us through parts of the Taurus Mountains, it is already dark, and when a sign announces the current altitude metres, we can hardly… Read more…

“Hoş geldiniz” – “Welcome”

“Hoş geldiniz” – “Welcome” is almost a common word and an expression of a living culture of welcome, according to our impression, in many parts of Turkey. We are actually greeted with these words in every shop, bistro, bakery and the like during our weeks in Turkey. Once, a local passing by one of our pitches and another man stopping next to us at a traffic light even literally “welcome” us in this way. We are very happy about… Read more…

Three of us on the road in wild and beautiful Bulgaria

We would never have thought that we would find a four-legged companion again in Bulgaria of all places. Romania had been THE dog country – stray dogs everywhere, in almost every street bay, where the unfortunately unavoidable rubbish collected. In Bulgaria, too, there are these littered bays, but without dogs. And the free-living dogs we see in cities often have a tag in their ear. This probably means that they have been castrated and vaccinated. Very sensible! In this respect,… Read more…

Where the jackals howl…

Bulgaria – what do you know about this country? What associations do you have? Probably very few, perhaps of a political nature or that there is a rather well-known “party mile” on the Black Sea in Bulgaria. Or that Bulgaria is the financially weakest EU country. We at least knew virtually nothing about this country. No one had ever told us about Bulgaria or had even been there before. Obviously there is nothing to report about a country that you… Read more…

Drum Bun – “Safe journey” Part 1: Transylvania and the fortified churches

Romania – so here we are! We were very excited and looking forward to it – after all, we have never heard so much about any other country, especially so many contradictory things. But we already knew that some travellers are totally enthusiastic about it and were accordingly open and curious about the country. It is also the first country of our trip that is impressively large – so it is already clear that we think and choose even more… Read more…
